Forced breaks.
While studying a lot for the CPA (8–10 hours a day) I found it extremely difficult to retain information.
Then I stumbled upon a YouTube video explaining the Pomodoro Technique and immediately changed my study habits.
The Pomodoro Technique is a mixture of pre-set working periods and breaks.
The general time frame is to study for 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break.
This allows for maximum focus and retention.
Implementing this technique into my study routine made me realize that breaks are a valuable tool for productivity.
If you want to be more productive you need adequate rest.
The big caveat to this technique is that there can’t be any distractions.
That means no phone.
If you go on your phone during breaks this technique won’t work.
Buy a physical clock and use that to time your sessions.
On your breaks try and be active.
Go for a walk if you can.
Give your brain an active rest.
Soon after implementing you’ll be able to repeat this technique for significant amounts of time and retain a boatload of information.
If you want to upgrade your study habits or even just general productivity I highly recommend using the Pomodoro Technique.
