We would take turns going to each other’s dorm room.
Most of the time we’d be doing homework or studying. Sometimes we’d watch YouTube, Netflix, or movies. For months I had silently refused to sit on her bed or use her desk chair. I didn’t want to overstep any boundaries or make her feel uncomfortable.
The whole time we had been together, I had been sitting on her roommate’s bed, desk chair, or floor. Finally, one day she asked me “Why won’t you sit on my bed?” Of course, I was horrified. I had never imagined her asking me that question. I immediately backpedaled. “Well, uh, I wasn’t sure… I didn’t know if you wanted me to.” She said, “I would like it if you did, plus you could always just ask me.” Relief washed over me in an instant.
I smiled, unable to hide the rosacea spreading across my face. I couldn’t help but appreciate her honesty.
There was something to it that I had a fondness for.
